M&S Wedding Guest Dresses 2024 - 11 Styles We Love (With Sleeves Too) - Wear Next. (2024)

Heading to a wedding this year? M&S has some seriously good dresses you might want to consider. While we’d all love to pull something out of our wardrobes that fits perfectly and looks stunning, finding the perfect wedding guest outfit is never that easy. Whether it’s weight gain or the weather, it always seems like we have nothing to wear (or is that just me?). But while it’s always annoying having to go searching for the perfect look, you won’t need to go too far if you’re a fan of M&S.

Everyone’s favourite brand, worn by the likes of Holly Willoughby and Vicky McClure, has so many stunning outfits you can wear to the countless nuptials you’ve inevitably got coming up this summer. And it’s good to be prepared, because while those events might feel like a lifetime away, wedding season is fast approaching.

There are a few things to consider that might help in your quest for the perfect wedding ‘fit. Firstly, we need to talk about practicality. Sure, we’d all love to wear a thigh-skimming sequin dress with sky-high heels that make your legs look like Kate Moss’, but when you’re hobbling through the mud to get to your car at 2am and shivering while you do, you might regret it. If you’re someone who often gets chilly or if the big day in question is in early spring, opt for long-sleeved dresses and longer hemlines to keep you warm. Make sure you can layer up with a coat you already own, or even a cardigan when you get chilly later on. Thicker fabrics also help with this such as velvet or satin.

The colour of your dress also needs serious consideration. Winter weddings are usually the perfect time to opt for wintery hues, like dark greens, navy blue, rich purple, bold red or simple black. When the weather warms up, opt for pastels and lighter hues. It goes without saying that you need to avoid white at all costs, and while we’re on the topic, white shoes might not be too practical either.

Let’s talk price point. It might seem easier to head to expensive brands to find your frock of choice, but it really isn’t necessary. Marks & Spencer is my first port of call for pretty much everything. These days, they don’t just stock their own brands like Autograph, Per Una and M&S Collection. You can find a number of great brands to choose from, like Nobody’s Child, Ghost, Sosander, Jaeger and many more, all of which have killer dresses for winter weddings.

Wedding guest dresses FAQs

If you’re heading to a wedding, those are the best dresses from Marks & Spencer to invest in now. But if you’ve still got questions, I’m answering them below.

What’s best to wear to a winter wedding?

When attending a winter wedding, always check the weather conditions and dress accordingly. Consider a stylish coat, thermal layers, and appropriate footwear, and avoid light and airy fabrics like chiffon. Instead opt for heavier materials like velvet, wool, or brocade to keep you warm. It’s worth wearing long sleeves and longer hemlines too!

What colour should I wear to winter weddings?

For a winter wedding, consider going for dresses in rich, deep colours like burgundy, emerald green, navy, or classic black. These hues not only align with the season, but also add elegance to your wedding look.

What dress should I wear to a winter wedding?

It’s down to you, but I recommend wearing dresses with long hemlines and long sleeves. You don’t want to get chilly, do you?

FAQs

What should a 75 year old woman wear to a wedding? ›

Pantsuits, jumpsuits, and dresses are appropriate choices for casual weddings. Women over 60 can choose knee-length, tea-length, or full-length dresses for most wedding themes. A full-length gown is the most suitable choice for formal or black-tie events.

What is the most popular wedding dress code? ›

Semi-Formal or co*cktail

This attire is one of the most popular dress codes, and for a good reason. It fits in with almost any wedding venue and is relatively easy for guests to follow. A semi-formal dress code calls for suits for men and co*cktail dresses for ladies.

What do you wear to an after 5 wedding? ›

The staff suggests that if a wedding is taking place at 4 p.m. or 5 p.m., you should wear something that easily transitions from day to night; any ceremony after 6 p.m. should be strictly co*cktail.

How to dress classy over 70? ›

In your 70s, it's a good rule of thumb to avoid looking too prim, too girly, or preppy. However, it's the perfect time to experiment with arty styles like tailored sweater coats, wide-leg pants, unusual clutches, and colorful patterns.

What should a 70 year old woman wear? ›

When choosing clothes for elderly ladies, look for versatility in your garments, for example: Loose-fit skirts with elegant prints and pleats that spread easily while sitting. Trousers that pull on easily with back waist elastication for added comfort. Cardigans without buttons that are warm and easy to put on.

What is the taboo color for wedding dress? ›

Steer clear of off-white, eggshell, beige, champagne, cream, or any other super light color that could be mistaken for white. There are so many dress options available in a variety of hues, so steering clear of these shades should not be a major issue.

What is the most common color to wear to a wedding? ›

If you're looking for something classic and timeless, dark colors like navy blue or black are always appropriate. For a more glamorous look, pastels such as lavender, light pink, or pale blue will add a touch of elegance to your outfit.

What color are most wedding dresses? ›

It is very traditional for brides to wear white on their wedding day. When you start looking at wedding dresses online or at a bridal shop, you will see wedding dresses labeled with many different color names, from white to ivory to off-white to diamond white to cream and many color names and shades in between.

How far out from your wedding should you go dress shopping? ›

Typically, we suggest making your bridal dress appointments 9-12 months prior to your wedding date. This date is suggested with the goal of picking out and ordering a dress 8-9 months before the wedding. This gives you plenty of time to shop around and find the dress of your dreams.

What is the attire for a 4pm wedding? ›

A nice short dress is appropriate at any wedding unless it states black tie. 4 PM sounds more like an evening wedding as it'll be evening by the time the reception comes, but my general rule of thumb is that it's better to be a little too dressed up rather than underdressed.

Can I wear a black dress to a 5 00 wedding? ›

As long as the event calls for a particular level of formality and you won't upstage the couple or the wedding party, it's safe to wear black to the wedding.

What is the best month to buy a wedding dress? ›

Designers and planners will tell you January is the best time to search for a wedding gown. There's a good reason for this and it is logistics. Many people get engaged during the Christmas holidays and the New Year. It's why designers and fashion houses often release new wedding dresses in January.

Who should see your wedding dress? ›

Our rule of thumb: bring whoever is paying for the gown (mom, sister) and immediate family only (sisters and mom and/or grandma). For everyone else, we suggest doing a fun dinner or brunch afterwards and you can show them pictures, etc.

What do female guests wear to weddings? ›

For women, this is once again an opportunity to wear a formal floor-length gown in satin, crepe, chiffon or silk while accessorizing with refined jewelry such as pearls or diamonds. Heels are recommended, but if you're looking to be more comfortable, you can wear dressy flats.

What is co*cktail attire for a wedding for an older woman? ›

co*cktail dresses generally refer to shorter dresses with a semi-formal feel (think knee-length or mini), but midi dresses or more casual maxi dresses can work too.

What should grandma wear to the wedding? ›

A full-length gown isn't required attire for your grandmother to wear at your wedding. A great co*cktail dress goes everywhere and anywhere. Grandmothers often prefer the ease of the shorter hemline. These dresses are perfect for daytime or casual weddings, all the way to a formal evening affair.

What is the best dress length for an older woman? ›

Keep your skirt and dress lengths to the knee or slightly above. Flowy dresses look best if they are mid-calf length. Steer clear of cropped pants — they were an unflattering fashion fad for way too long.

What color do grandmothers wear to weddings? ›

What Color should the Grandmother of the Bride or Groom Wear? As for what color to wear, don't worry! So long as you do not wear white or the same color as the bridesmaids, everything will be fine. A little sparkle and shine also make you look more glamorous, vibrant, modern, and beautiful.
